A gas circuit breaker is a high-voltage switchgear that uses a gaseous medium for arc extinguishing and isolation. Its working principle utilizes the excellent insulating properties of gas. When an arc occurs due to a circuit fault, gas is injected into the arc region to reduce the arc voltage, accelerating the arc cooling and extinguishing process. After the arc is extinguished, the gas isolation plate pops open, isolating the faulty circuit from the power supply.
SF6 Gas Circuit Breaker: Uses SF6 gas, possessing excellent insulation properties and arc extinguishing capabilities, and is widely used in high-voltage switchgear.
N2 Gas Circuit Breaker: Uses nitrogen gas, primarily used in low-voltage power systems, but can also be used as an arc extinguishing medium in SF6 gas circuit breakers.
CO2 Gas Circuit Breaker: Uses carbon dioxide gas, with relatively poor arc extinguishing performance, and is widely used in low-voltage equipment.
Strong Arc Extinguishing Capability: The arc extinguishing capability of gas circuit breakers is unmatched by other types of circuit breakers, extinguishing arcs in the circuit in a very short time.
Excellent Insulation Performance: The gaseous medium has excellent insulating properties, effectively preventing electrical faults and ensuring the safe operation of equipment. Small size and light weight: Gas circuit breakers typically employ a sealed structure, resulting in a small size and light weight.
Long service life: Gas circuit breakers have virtually no moving parts, leading to a generally long service life.
Gas circuit breakers must not be interlocked: If one circuit breaker is opened, energizing its circuit, and other connected circuit breakers also open at the same time, it will cause the gas circuit breaker to trip prematurely.
Avoid frequent operation: Although gas circuit breakers have a long lifespan, frequent switching will shorten it; therefore, frequent operation should be avoided as much as possible.
Keep the equipment clean: Gas circuit breakers should be kept as clean as possible to ensure their normal operation. Especially in SF6 gas circuit breakers, oxygen and moisture should be prevented from entering, as this will affect their normal operation.
